Former BI-LO becomes Food Lion grocery store in Beaufort. Here’s when you can shop

A new Food Lion grocery store opened Wednesday morning in Beaufort, taking the place of a recently closed BI-LO.

The store, located at 2127 Boundary St., will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily and will employ about 75 people, according to a Food Lion news release.

Food Lion, based in Salisbury, North Carolina, announced last year that it had purchased 62 BI-LO and Harvey’s locations across South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. The purchase of the Boundary Street location was in addition to that deal. The grocery company currently has more than 1,000 stores across 10 states.

Jacksonville, Florida-based Southeastern Grocers phased out its BI-LO brand and is putting more focus on its Winn-Dixie stores, according to trade publication Supermarket News. In a post dated April 18 on its website, Southeastern Grocers thanks its BI-LO customers over the past 60 years.

A former BI-LO location on Parris Island Gateway in Port Royal reopened as a Food Lion on March 17.

Another BI-LO, on Hilton Head’s Pope Avenue, closed earlier this month. No information was available to confirm whether the Hilton Head location would be converted into a Food Lion or, if so, what that timetable would be.

Al Vargo will be the manager of the Boundary Street location. A Food Lion news release said he has lived in the community for more than 10 years.
