Chicken Salad Chick is opening soon in Bluffton. Here’s how to get free food, prizes

Chicken Salad Chick opens March 10 in Bluffton, and hundreds of customers who are among the first in line during the restaurant’s first few days will walk away with a bonus.

The restaurant is located at 20 Discovery Drive off Buckwalter Parkway in the area near the new Kroger. It offers a dozen flavors of chicken salad served either as a scoop or a sandwich.

Franchise owners Tim and Kelly Paslawski previously opened Chicken Salad Chick locations in Savannah, where they live, and in Pooler and Statesboro, Georgia.

Kelly Paslawski said their family and friends didn’t know what to think when they opened their first location six years ago. The couple was among the first to open a franchise of the Alabama-based business that now has more than 150 locations listed on its website.

“We got some ‘bless your hearts,’ “ Kelly said. “People have told us years later that they just shook their heads. ... They weren’t sure about this Chicken Salad Chick thing.”

But the business took off, and customers who drove from Beaufort County to Pooler have been asking for a location closer to home.

Next week, their wish will come true.

The first customer in the door on Tuesday, March 10, will win a free large Quick Chick each week for a year. A large Quick Chick is a one-pound take-out container of chicken salad.

The next 99 customers will win a free large Quick Chick each month for a year. Everyone else who purchases a Chick Special will be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 additional chicken salad prizes.

Other bonuses the first week:

  • On Wednesday, March 11, the first 100 to buy a Chick Trio will get a T-shirt.
  • On Thursday, March 12, the first 100 to buy a Chick Trio will get a tumbler.
  • On Friday, March 13, the first 50 to purchase two large Quick Chicks will get a tote bag.

A few disclaimers included in the rules: The prizes will be given only to those who order in the store, not those using the drive-thru. Winners must be over age 16 and must download the restaurant’s Craving Credits app.

The menu

All of the chicken salad will be made on site daily from chicken that is cooked at the Bluffton location.

The 50- to 60-person crew — they were still looking to hire 10 or so people — expects to make and sell around 700 pounds a chicken salad each day during the initial opening period. That will eventually taper to around 300 pounds daily, Kelly Paslawski said.

The menu includes a base of shredded chicken and mayo with different add-ins. Each variety is named for a different person. For example, the Kickin’ Kay Lynne, Tim Paslawski’s favorite because of its spicier flavor with buffalo sauce, jalapenos and Sriracha, is named for founder Stacy Brown’s aunt with fiery red hair, according to the restaurant’s website.

Other combinations lean toward the classic, such as the Fancy Nancy with apples, grapes and pecans, or the savory, such as the Sassy Scotty with ranch, bacon and cheddar cheese.

In addition to chicken salad, there are vegetarian menu items, such as pimento cheese and egg salad. That’s rounded out with a soup of the day and an assortment of Southern-inspired sides like broccoli salad, grape salad and pasta salad.
