Seafood restaurant opening in former Hilton Head gas station. Here’s what we know
A seafood restaurant with an unusual name and a menu inspired by its food truck origins is opening early next year on Hilton Head.
Those who would like a sneak peek might want to try the restaurant’s Pooler location sooner.
Slapfish is celebrating its grand opening at 801 Pooler Parkway in Pooler at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 and will offer the first 100 customers a free lobster roll. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Emily Bernstein, a representative of Slapfish, said the Hilton Head location is expected to open in March with the same menu as Pooler’s.
Plans for the Hilton Head restaurant, which will be at 153 Arrow Road, were approved by the town earlier this year. Since then, remodeling has been underway at the former south-end gas station once known as The Pantry.
A Slapfish news release describes the eatery as a place that “serves cravable dishes in a fast-casual setting.”
Bernstein, in an email, said the founder of the chain, Chef Andrew Gruel, has made it a mission to make customers fall in love with fresh seafood.
“Good seafood isn’t just for fine dining,” Bernstein wrote.
Slapfish’s menu features shrimp, lobster and fried or grilled fish served in sandwiches, tacos and salads, along with New England clam chowder, lobster rolls, and fish and chips.
Less traditional offerings are the Chowder Fries, which are fries smothered in clam chowder and bacon; the Surf and Turf Burger that includes lobster, cheese and caramelized onions; and the Clobster Grilled Cheese, a sandwich stuffed with crab and lobster.
Slapfish’s website lists locations in 10 states, the District of Columbia and London.
The news release said more than 50 restaurants are in development, with multiple locations in South Carolina and Georgia in the works.
