The infamous Murdaugh property has been divided and a part sold. What was included?

The now infamous house and more than 1,700 acres of land belonging to the Murdaugh family was purchased by a neighbor in March of 2023. The new owners then separated the parcel into multiple pieces and, on Tuesday, sold a 21 acre plot that included the house, for an undisclosed sum.

Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and her son Paul, 22, were found shot to death near the dog kennels on the property in June 2021. Husband and father Alex Murdaugh was convicted of killing them and is serving two life sentences for the crime. The kennels were not included in either sale.

Sale history since 2023

A year and two months ago, Jeff Godley and James Ayer, purchased the land and the 5,275-square-foot house for $2,663,676 according to Colleton County property records. They said in a release at the time of listing that they wanted to sell the house, known as the Moselle Estate Residence in Islandton and 21 acres of the larger property because they were interested in the remaining undeveloped land for hunting, farming and timber, the State Newspaper reported. “I am a next-door neighbor, with our home about a mile from this house. We seek a new neighbor to enjoy this gorgeous house and land,” Godley said in a statement.

The Crosby Land Company facilitated the sale and their website describes the home as “Beyond the stately brick columns at the property’s entrance, a long, impressive oak-lined driveway awaits, leading to a quintessential southern vision of the classic and traditionally styled home with stunning high-end features such as pine flooring and a sportsman’s room.”

After the long driveway, guests to the home are greeted by mahogany front doors. Upon entering, they’re met with the grand staircase and mezzanine balcony of the 4 bedroom and 4.5 bath home.
