The developer working to bring a set of new hotels to Beaufort is also moving forward with a large, mixed-use development a short jaunt to the south in Pooler, Ga.

The Savannah Morning News reported earlier this week that Pooler’s planning board has recommended approval of construction plans for the first phase for the Mosiac Town Center — a 130-acre project near the intersection of Pooler Parkway and Interstate 16.

Mosiac Town Center is being developed by Savannah-based HD Companies and is expected to include hotels, offices, shops, lofts, an amphitheater, and a lake-front promenade.

David Hornsby, vice president in charge of development for HD Companies, told the Savannah newspaper that the developer hopes to break ground in September with a construction time-frame of about five years.

In February, the same developer announced the start of site work for the construction of two new Hilton-branded hotels in Beaufort near the Spanish Moss Trail.

A 98-room Tru by Hilton hotel will go up directly adjacent to the site of a 107-room Home2 Suites at Parris Island Gateway and County Shed Road.

Construction at the Beaufort projects is expected to take between six and nine months, Hornsby told the Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette when plans were being reviewed late last year.
