Bluffton man on History channel’s ‘Curse of Oak Island’ special. Here’s how to watch
A Bluffton business owner will be featured Tuesday night on a History channel reality television show about a centuries-old Nova Scotia treasure hunt.
Chris Morford appeared on “Curse of Oak Island” in January. In that episode, Morford and Netherlands-based researcher Corjan Mol explored potential clues related to a French painting from the 1600s.
On Tuesday night, starting at 8 p.m., a special called “Curse of Oak Island: Drilling Down” examines the island’s possible connection to the works of William Shakespeare. The Season 7 finale of “The Curse of Oak Island” follows at 9 p.m.
History channel is 38 on Hargray and 45 on Spectrum.
What are treasure hunters looking for? Apparently even that remains part of the mystery.
“We know there’s a treasure there, but no one is entirely sure what that treasure is,” Morford said. Researchers have turned up underground tunnels, ancient pieces of parchment and even a lead cross potentially tied to the Knights Templar.
Morford, 52, owns High Tide Liquors in Bluffton Commons at Belfair with his wife Stella. They have a 3-year-old daughter, Mia.
Morford said his interest in history spans years.
“It’s just been a hobby and a fascination of mine for a couple of decades now,” he said. “I love delving into the mysteries of the past.”

He said being asked to be part of the show, first flying to Nova Scotia for filming and then to Los Angeles for tonight’s episode, helped to validate the time he’s spent reading and studying esoteric texts.
The show’s producer’s have announced that season 8 will be filmed once coronavirus-related travel restrictions are eased.
Morford said he’s hoping his part of the show isn’t over yet.
“I’m hoping to make it up there one more time,” he said. “That would be good.”
