Want to go to this Southern Charm star’s pillow party? Here’s your chance, Beaufort County
One of Bravo TV’s “Southern Charm” stars is coming to Beaufort County on Wednesday, and he’s bringing his pillows.
Craig Conover, founder of Sewing Down South — a Charleston-based “sewing lifestyle brand” of pillows, shirts, hats, and other products — will be at the Macdonald MarketPlace in St. Helena from 5 to 7 p.m. for a “Holiday Pop-Up Pillow Party.”
The St. Helena event will be the 19th or 20th pop-up event Sewing Down South has done since its founding, Conover told The Island Packet in a phone interview Wednesday.
“I still get excited every time,” he said. “I always get butterflies before.”
He said this is the first time he’s visited St. Helena, but the company has a factory in nearby Beaufort that makes the pillows, and he’s visited Beaufort County before with Southern Charm co-star Shep Rose, who is from Hilton Head Island and owns his own fashion line called Shep Gear.
Conover said Sewing Down South wants to continue doing events “close to home” and treat everyone in South Carolina with as much love as everyone across the country.
“Everyone seems to be rooting for (Sewing Down South) and it’s been fun,” he said.
Each event is a little different and unique to the store it’s hosted in, but Conover always takes time to chat with customers, pose for photos, and sign products people purchase. This will be the first event that will have the holiday collection pillows for sale, he said.
Macdonald MarketPlace, which was named one of the South’s Best Shops in Southern Living’s November issue, is tucked away in Frogmore on Sea Island Parkway, in a building constructed in 1877 by the current owner’s great-grandfather, manager Melba Thomas said.
“We’re excited about people coming to see our store and meet Craig,” Thomas said. The event is a “come and go” style event with refreshments, she said, and Conover will have Christmas pillows for purchase.
Macdonald’s MarketPlace sells local art, vintage and antique items, as well as new merchandise.
Since the Sewing Down South opened last year, it has gained 92,200 followers on Instagram. In addition to its holiday collection, Sewing Down South has 11 pillows in different colors and designs for $58 each. Although Macdonald MarketPlace doesn’t currently sell Sewing Down South pillows in its stores, the Bluffton General Store recently posted that it has the pillows in stock, including some signed by Conover.
The party at Macdonald MarketPlace is the first of Convover’s six-stop Holiday Pillow Party Tour, and the only stop in South Carolina. From St. Helena, he’ll travel to Atlanta; Birmingham; Haymarket, Virginia; Lutherville, Maryland; and Wayne, Pennsylvania, in coming weeks.
