Lucas: Civil war, Robert Smalls at center of talk, book signing at Heritage Library

The author of a new novel centered on the civil war and the life of Robert Smalls, who stole a Confederate gunboat, will be on hand for a talk and book signing on Hilton Head Island this weekend.

Thomas Thibault author of “The Man Who Stole Himself; A Novel of the Civil War” will be at the Heritage Library, at 2 p.m. Sunday.

A retired educator, Thibault was born in Canada and raised in Ireland and now resides in the United States.

The library is at 852 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head.

The cost is $10. Reservations are required.
