Take a sneak peek at what the HGTV 2020 dream home on Hilton Head looks like inside
The pillows are fluffed and the pool is filled at the HGTV 2020 Dream Home. It’s ready for the show.
The three-bedroom home, which designer Brian Patrick Flynn called a “fresh take on coastal Lowcountry,” sits on a marshfront lot in Windmill Harbour near Hilton Head Island. Although construction began in March, the home was recently completed with furnishings.
It’s a 3,500 square-foot oasis, he said.
While Flynn works on homes across the country for HGTV, local entities are responsible for building the home in less than one year.
Shoreline Construction built the home from the ground up based on architecture and design from Court Atkins Group. Both firms are based in Bluffton.
“We rarely get a project without a specific client,” William Court of the Court Atkins group said. “We got to go for mass appeal, and we knew it had to represent a coastal community.”
While HGTV doesn’t directly release the potential listing price of the home, it sits between $1.75 million and $2 million, according to HGTV promotional rules.
The home’s master suite opens to a wide porch that overlooks the marsh and in-ground pool. The winner of the home will also get all the furnishings.
The outdoor space was the focus of construction, said Chris Dalzell with Shoreline.
Its pool area, outdoor cooking patio and natural outlook are what makes the home unique to Hilton Head, Dalzell said.
Windmill Harbour was chosen for its privacy, waterfront views and frankly, the availability of a flat lot, home promotions manager Chesney Anderson told The Island Packet.
HGTV researchers looked at which locations viewers find “dreamy,” as well as local taxes and pace of living, she said.
Flynn, who designed the interiors of the home, said the home was created with viewers from across the country in mind — which reflects the wide cross-section of people who live on Hilton Head.
“It gives us the ability to play a little and push the envelope,” Flynn said.
The goal with the dream home, other than changing the life of the viewer, is also to inspire design choices in HGTV viewers.
Viewers will get a chance to see the inside of the home at 8 p.m. on Jan. 1, when the network airs its “HGTV Dream Home Special 2020.”
Lowcountry cities are no strangers to “dream homes.”
In 2013, Charleston was selected as the site for the home.
In 1998, the dream home was built on St. Helena Island.
How to enter the dream home giveaway
The sweepstakes to win the dream home opens at 9 a.m. on Dec. 30, Anderson said.
Once the entry period opens, you can enter twice per day on the HGTV website. Anderson suggested signing up for the daily reminder emails to enter as many times as possible.
The entry period closes Feb. 19, and the winner will be announced in April.
Anderson said the winner is chosen in a ping-pong ball draw, and the winner is notified “ambush-style” on television with a friend who helps organize the big surprise.
The winner of the contest can choose to accept the home and Honda Passport Elite or take the cash prize, which is valued at $2 million.
