Bluffton's Shameik Blackshear 'doing well' in recovery from Columbia shooting
Defensive lineman Shameik Blackshear, a four-star recruit from Bluffton who played briefly in 2015, is expected to be released from the hospital “in the next couple days,” South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said.
Blackshear has been hospitalized since being shot twice, once in the upper body and once in the lower body, during a mid-December incident in Columbia.
“He’s doing well,” Muschamp said. “I talked to him a couple days ago. He seems to be doing well.”
Muschamp declined to discuss Blackshear’s future with the team.
“Right now his health is the most important thing,” Muschamp said. “I want to visit with him a little bit and go forward with that.”
