Liz’s Notebook: 4 crowned in Miss Hilton Head, Miss Coastal Islands pageant
Judges in the Miss Hilton Head Island Scholarship Pageant crowned four winners Saturday night at the Seahawk Cultural Center at Hilton Head Island High School.
They were: Miss Hilton Head Island Anna Brown, 22, of Greer; Miss Coastal Islands Suzi Roberts, 22, of Pawleys Island; Miss Hilton Head Island Teen Payton Lang, 16, of Lexington; and Miss Coastal Islands Carolina Hopkins, 15, of Greer.
In addition to a number of prizes, the winners of the Miss contest each received $1,500 scholarships and the Miss Teen winners each received a $250 cash prize.
This year’s contests featured 17 hopefuls, nine of whom were from Hilton Head or Bluffton.
First runner-up in the Miss contest was Shannon Baucus of Charleston; second runner-up was Emily Doyle of Columbia.
First runner-up in Miss Teen was Hailey Pimental of Myrtle Beach; second runner-up was Emily Workman of Hilton Head.
Other honors during the night included: People’s Choice, which went to Delaney Black of Bluffton; Teen Evening Gown and Teen Talent Winner, awarded to Lang; Miss Swimsuit went to Brown; Miss Talent was Roberts.
The annual Miss America-affiliated pageant is in its fifth year. Executive directors Jeremy Culpepper and Harry Culpepper will usher the winners to the Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen pageants in Columbia this June. They added two new titles to their lineup this year, Miss Coastal Islands and Miss Coastal Islands Teen.
“It’s going to be very interesting,” Harry Culpepper said. “We want all four girls to place in the top fives this year.”
