Michael Jackson takes a bow with classical young duo

Last Saturday morning was already a beautiful one on Hilton Head Island when this broke out.

Kearston and Kendall Gonzales were posing for photographs in the First Presbyterian Church courtyard. Their mother, Tanika Gonzales, needs a new photo for a new business card for her talented daughters.

Kearston, 11, has been playing violin since she was 3. Kendall, 9, started with the cello a month before she turned 3. They specialize in classical music and are available for public, private, philanthropic, academic and political events, performing as Time For 2.

They have played in some remarkable settings, including last year’s Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston.

Kearston studies violin with Dorothy Mauney of Sun City Hilton Head, former director of the Hilton Head Youth Orchestra. They both study duets under Dorothy, even following her north for the summer. Kendall has studied cello under Susan Hines.

To accommodate all the travel, the girls are home-schooled. The day before this photo-shoot, they had performed at TEDxGreensboro in North Carolina in the morning and at the Port Royal Beach Club on Hilton Head in the evening.

So what is the classical tune captured on my iPhone video as the girls posed for their mother by the churchyard fountain?

It’s Michael Jackson, of course. Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror” took a turn with Beethoven.
