Letter: SCDOT landscape maintenance deplorable

I’m in full agreement with recent letters criticizing the ineptitude of the SC Department of Transportation regarding landscape maintenance, so may I add my complaint regarding the recently-widened portion of S.C. 170 between U.S. 278 and S.C. 46?

The widening project was completed late last winter, and albeit well behind schedule it has been a boon to residents of Sun City who can safely make a left-turn exit without fear of being T-boned by speeding drivers and dump trucks. The contractor applied hydro-seeding to the medians and curbsides at completion so that there would be greenery by springtime.

Fast-forward many months later: Not once has the SCDOT been by to control what is now a mess of three-foot-high weeds in the median and alongside the walking and bicycle paths, as well as downed tree limbs and other debris.

The emails I have sent to them concerning this issue have gone unanswered. They seem to have a “who cares” attitude toward any requests for maintenance, or at least any that I have put forth. Is anyone up in their ivory tower listening?
