Flooding prevents some Tabby Walk renters from returning

Some residents of Tabby Walk Villas on Hilton Head Island have been asked to wait before returning to their apartments after flooding swept through the complex.

At least 12 units are not ready for tenants to return to in the wake of Hurricane Matthew, according to Don Brashears, president of the homeowner’s association.

Brashears said about 25 percent of the units within the complex experienced some kind of water damage and that a crew of 50 people is working to have the apartments ready within one to two weeks.

In the meantime, water and food is being distributed at the First Presbyterian Church and residents in the 12 units that are unlivable have been asked to stay with family, friends or seek help from the American Red Cross, Brashears said.
