What is being done to protect us against unlicensed contractors?
Town manager Steve Riley said patrols will begin today for people who are working without a license during the hurricane recovery effort.
Riley said he believes scamming is more prevalent on the mainland, but that he is aware of some illegal tree removal and contractor work being done on Hilton Head.
Starting tomorrow, unlicensed companies will again be able to get a license to properly work on the island.
“I’m not necessarily telling them to go away and never come back,” Riley said. “I’m telling them to go get licensed. ... and if you're legit and you've got your paperwork and your insurances, we'll license you. And if you're not, we're going to invite you to leave the town."
