What are some safety tips to know about using my generator?

Don’t keep your generator inside an enclosed space, especially not in your home or garage; they should only be used outdoors. Fumes will build up that are fatal, even with fans or open windows, according to a National Safety Council tip sheet and an American Red Cross generator safety web page.

Let the engine cool for a few minutes before you try to refuel your generator — those fumes are also flammable, the experts indicate.

Be sure to also keep it away from flames or combustible materials.

Only use grounded extension cords, and keep the generator safe from water, they also advise.
