When will it be OK to return to Hilton Head Island?
Once Hurricane Matthew moves through, access will be restricted to Hilton Head Island to assess damage, according to a press release from the Town of Hilton Head Island.
Even after Gov. Nikki Haley rescinds the evacuation order, the final authority for allowing residents to return to the island will be Hilton Head Mayor David Bennett.
You can call the Hilton Head Island/Beaufort County Re-Entry hotline at 1-800-963-5023 for more information.
The town advises residents that they will need a photo ID with their local address on it or a utility bill in their name and island address to re-enter the island.
