At what height of storm surge will most of Hilton Head Island be under water?

Storm surge predictions as of 10 a.m. Friday do not look good for Hilton Head Island and Beaufort.

Forecasters predict the South Carolina coast to have storm surge of up to 8 feet or more.

Just 3 feet of storm surge would overwhelm the portion of Hilton Head south of Broad Creek, according to the National Hurricane Center’s storm surge map. The same goes for Beaufort.

Patches of Hunting Island and Lady’s Island will be flooded by just one foot of storm surge.

Aside from areas lining the May River that would flood at 3 feet of storm surge, Bluffton appears to be relatively safe from inundation, according to the map.
