Is it true that my kids will be taken from me if my family doesn’t evacuate?
No.
Law enforcement won’t be going door-to-door to see who has complied with the evacuation order.
Beyond that, parents won’t be targeted by law enforcement simply for choosing to stay with their children.
But there are laws against child endangerment, and officers would investigate any potential criminal violations, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Bob Bromage said.
“You're responsible for the safety of your children,” Bromage said. “The governor has issued a mandatory evacuation. We would hope that parents of children would not put their children in harm’s way.”
