These are the drunkest beaches in America
Some people seek out beaches to party, and others seek them out to relax. Vinepair has a list that could be useful to both groups.
Vinepair, a publishing site about alcohol, took 20 popular U.S. beaches and ranked them from most drunk to least drunk using blood alcohol content levels. Topping the list is Myrtle Beach, and number 20 is Miami.
The data was gathered with BACtrack, a smartphone application that allows you to pair a breathalyzer with your phone and track your BAC level. Vinepair took data from the selected beaches between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2015 using the phones’ geo-locators.
That means the data was only among people who both had the breathalyzer app and people who chose to use it, so it could be more representative of how drunk those consuming alcohol are, rather than the number of drunk people compared to the number of sober people on those beaches.
Myrtle Beach was the drunkest, with an average BAC level of .117. Norfolk, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina come in a close second and third with average BACs that were over .1.
Miami was number 20, the lowest ranked on the list, with an average BAC of .49.
One commenter on the study pointed out that the top five cities were all close to military bases.
