Car on fire on Spanish Wells Road blocks eastbound lanes of U.S. 278 on Hilton Head

A car on fire at Spanish Wells Road caused traffic delays late Tuesday afternoon on Hilton Head Island, an alert from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said.
All eastbound lanes of U.S. 278 were blocked by emergency vehicles working to clear the car, according to the alert, sent shortly after 5 p.m. Drivers can expect traffic delays for the next hour.
