Parked Beaufort County school bus catches fire

A parked Beaufort County School District bus caught fire Wednesday, according to a district news release.

After completing routes, a driver returned the bus to the Robert Smalls International Academy bus parking lot around 4:30 p.m., the release said. She then noticed smoke coming from the engine and contacted the fire department.

No students were aboard the 1988 model bus, the release said. The bus is owned and maintained by the state.
