Search continues for vehicle involved in hit-and-run that claimed Bluffton teen’s life
The driver of a pickup truck alleged to have been involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Bluffton teenager on Saturday remains at large.
S.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said Thursday the search for the driver who fled the I-26 scene where 14-year-old Grace Sulak died continues. He declined to provide further information citing the ongoing investigation.
Sulak was in the backseat of the Nissan Rogue that Andrea Dewey was driving in Calhoun County. Dewey’s daughter Emma was in the front passenger seat. Both Deweys were injured when their vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. They were flown to Palmetto Health Richland Trauma Center near Columbia.
Rebecca Baez, a Dewey family , said Wednesday that Andrea Dewey remained awake and alert.
Baez said Emma Dewey was woken from a medically induced coma on Wednesday and was ‘chipper’ and eager to continue healing. Two attempts to reach Baez and hospital officials Thursday were unsuccessful.
Investigators believe the offending driver was in a white Dodge Ram 2500 crew cab pickup truck. The truck may have damage on the right front bumper or fender area.
Anyone with information about the collision or the pickup can contact the Highway Patrol at 843-953-6010 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
