Teen shoots himself in the leg in Bluffton neighborhood

A 15-year-old male was airlifted to a Savannah hospital Friday evening after he accidentally shot himself in the leg in Bluffton.

Bluffton Police Department spokesperson Joy Nelson said Monday the teen was in the Pine Ridge neighborhood when the shot rang out around 6 p.m.

He was taken by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Nelson said. She could not provide information on the teenager’s condition Monday.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as police attempt to identify to whom the weapon belonged, Nelson said.

Nelson said no charges have been filed in the case.
