Fatal shooting investigated in Ridgeland

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting at a mobile home park in Ridgeland, officials say.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Friday at the Midway Circle Mobile Home Park on S.C. 170, according to a statement released by the sheriff's office on Saturday.

Officers and EMS workers responding to the scene found a man with a single gunshot wound lying on the road, the statement said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives determined the crime scene expanded outside of the mobile home park. Field agents with the state law enforcement division were called in to investigate.

A suspect has been identified, but officials are waiting on a decision from the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office to determine arrest charges, the statement said.

Neither the victim nor the suspect's identity had been released on Saturday afternoon.
