Death of elderly woman Hilton Head Island fire appears accidental
An 85-year-old Hilton Head Island woman died after her home caught fire early Friday morning.
Annie Mae Bolden was identified by the Beaufort County Coroner's Office as the victim of a fire that was reported around 4 a.m. at 609 William Hilton Parkway at the intersection of Burkes Beach Road.
The fire was extinguished a short time later, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.
Investigators from the Sheriff's Office, SLED and Hilton Head Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire.
The Sheriff's Office said Friday afternoon no evidence has been found that points to arson, and the death appears to be accidental.
Bolden's body was sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where a preliminary autopsy showed cause of death to be smoke inhalation.
