Hilton Head man charged with drug offenses after chase
A Hilton Head Island man was charged with four drug offenses Tuesday after a chase with deputies, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies, responding to call about a man reportedly selling drugs from a car on Snyder Walk Road on the island, arrived to find four men sitting in a Kia Forte with all four doors open.
Two men standing beside the car began talking to the authorities, but as more deputies approached, one of the men jumped into the back of the car and shut the door, the report said. The driver sped off toward Muddy Creek Road with a deputy in pursuit. The car continued onto Spanish Wells Road and several side streets before stopping on Blue Bell Lane.
Three of the men ran toward Oak View Road, while the fourth was stopped by a deputy with his weapon drawn.
Deputies found a bag of marijuana inside a backpack, as well as a small bag of cocaine, a pill identified as hydromorphone, and several pills identified as methylphenidate, the report said.
Akeem Jenkins, 20, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of cocaine, and two counts of possession of a schedule II drug. He said none of the contraband belonged to him.
