Attempted stabbing reported at Beaufort Walmart

An unknown assailant tried to stab a Walmart employee in the bathroom of the Beaufort store Saturday morning, according to the Beaufort Police Department.

The victim told police he was washing his hands about 6:30 a.m. when a man lunged at him from behind, Lt. Darrell Gruel said. The victim felt something sharp poke his back and turned around to find the attacker holding a knife, Gruel said.

The suspect ran out of the bathroom of the Robert Smalls Parkway store and left the area before police could locate him, according to Gruel. The victim was not injured.

The suspect was described as a six-foot-one Hispanic male with a close-cropped haircut, wearing a black shirt and jeans. Gruel said investigators were working to identify him Saturday.
