A Ridgeland man has been arrested and charged in the April 2013 shooting death of Darius Woods, according to an S.C. Law Enforcement Division news release.

Billy Phillips, 41, was charged with murder Monday by SLED. He was being held at the Federal Correctional Institute in Estill for another charge, and was brought to Jasper County for a bond hearing, according to SLED spokesman Thom Berry.

"This was a complex and time consuming investigation," Ridgeland Police Chief Richard Woods said in a news release. "This is another example of what can happen when law enforcement works together to solve a case such as this."

Phillips was denied bond and taken back to Estill, where he is serving time for a federal probation violation, the news release said.
