SUV crashes into Port Royal auto parts store. Here’s what we know

Police and firefighters are investigating after an SUV drove into an auto parts store in Port Royal on Tuesday.

A vehicle drove into Advanced Auto Parts at 1501 Ribaut Road, the Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Department said in a Facebook post just after noon.

Photos show a red Lexus SUV inside the entrance to the store with the hood up and damage to the front end. Glass and other debris were on the floor and the door frame hung in pieces.

Nobody inside the store was injured, Fire Chief Reece Bertholf said. The driver was the lone occupant and taken to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, Bertholf said.

Witnesses told firefighters the car was preparing to turn left from Ribaut Road onto Lady’s Island Drive when it left the road, hit a car in the store’s parking lot and crashed through the entrance.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by law enforcement.

This is a developing story.
