Update: Tractor-trailer’s cab burns in fire along I-95 in Ridgeland
A tractor-trailer fire closed a northbound lane of I-95 for several hours on Tuesday night, according to the Ridgeland Fire Department.
A Facebook post by the department about 9 p.m. asked motorists to avoid the area near mile marker 21 as crews worked to put out the fire.
Jasper County Fire-Rescue also posted on Facebook about the same time asking people to avoid the area.
A news release from the Ridgeland Fire Department about two hours later, after the interstate was reopened, said the fire completely engulfed the cab of the tractor-trailer but was extinguished before it spread to the cargo.
The driver had reported “mechanical difficulties” before smoke filled the cab, the news release said.
There were no injuries, and no hazardous materials were involved, the fire department reported.
