Report: Man at Hilton Head Walmart tries to steal three TVs and some delicious snacks
An unidentified man tried to steal three flat-panel televisions, a bag of chips and a bottle of juice from a Hilton Head Island Walmart store on Thursday morning.
An employee of the store spotted the man — described as a “younger black male (between) 20 and 30 years old, about 5-feet-9-inches tall and (between) 140 and 160 pounds” — walk past the cashier counters “with a loaded shopping cart,” according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report released Friday.
The man didn’t pay for the items and when approached by the employee, “ran off into the parking lot,” jumped in a gray BMW with Georgia tags and “quickly drove off,” the report said.
While the incident was captured by surveillance cameras, the footage “was not sufficient for identification purposes,” the report said.
The value of the TVs, chips, and juice — all of which was recovered by Walmart employees — totaled just over $460, according to the report.
