Dogs left tied to car in parking lot on a 100-degree day
Two dogs were left tied to a car in the Island Square Shopping Center parking lot on Lady’s Island on Saturday. There was a bowl of water out for them, but high temperatures reached 100 degrees that day.
Though the dogs appeared to be very hot and were panting, they were medically healthy, according to Capt. Bob Bromage with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Beaufort County Animal Control took possession of the dogs, he said.
The owner, a 33-year-old Arizona woman, and a 24-year-old Colorado man with whom she was traveling were found in a nearby restaurant, Bromage said. She was charged with abandonment of animals, and he was charged with ill treatment of animals in connection with this incident; both misdemeanors. The man also was charged with having an open container in the vehicle.
They were arrested and taken to Beaufort County Detention Center around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, where they remained as of Sunday afternoon.
