An early morning vehicle fire reported Friday on St. Helena Island has been deemed “suspicious.”

When firefighters of the Lady’s Island-St. Helena Fire District arrived around 4:45 a.m., they found the 2003 Ford Expedition engulfed in flames parked next to the owner’s home, according to Scott Harris, spokesman for the fire district.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it reached the home, but the vehicle was deemed a total loss, Harris said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the fire district and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
