Ridgeland family of three left homeless after early morning fire
A Ridgeland family of three is getting assistance from the American Red Cross after an early Friday morning fire destroyed their home.
Ridgeland firefighters and a Jasper County fire truck responded to the Oak Hill Road home around 3:30 a.m. and found the blaze "out of control," according to an American Red Cross news release.
The male occupant of the home sustained cuts to his hand after he broke a bedroom window to escape the fire and helped his wife and 11-year-old daughter escape.
He was treated at the scene and declined further assistance, the release said.
The American Red Cross will provide funding for the family's immediate needs, shelter and a week's supply of food.
