Lady's Island Walmart construction to start soon
Work on Lady's Island Walmart could begin soon.
City planners met with the project's leaders Tuesday for a pre-construction talk. The builders could be issued a permit for site work within the week, city planning director Libby Anderson told city manager Bill Prokop on Tuesday.
The 150,000-square-foot Walmart will be build at Airport Circle on Sea Island Parkway in a development known as Island Shops, which will include more than 30,000 square feet of retail space.
Trees will be cleared first. The site will then receive 20,000 truckloads of dirt, mostly from St. Helena Island, and another couple of thousand truckloads of gravel stone, Anderson said.
The work could take about five months, with trucks working six days a week.
