Beaufort has landed on another prestiguous list, this time sneaking into the New York Times' list of "52 Places to Go in 2016," published Thursday.

Small-town Beaufort lands at the very bottom of the list of far-flung destinations all around the world, just under not-so-small-town Syndey, Australia. The list includes everything from little-known islands to massive global metropolises.

The Times' Daniel Scheffler recommends the Anchorage 1770 and iconic Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park.

"Petite Beaufort has the appeal of a much larger city (restaurants, festivals and art galleries) without giving up its small-town, Low Country charms (bike lanes, walking paths and romantic park benches overlooking the water)," Scheffler writes.

Frank Lesesne, who owns Anchorage 1770 with his wife, Amy, said he was "thrilled" by the mention of the inn on the New York Times list. The historic building at the intersection of Bay and Newcastle streets underwent a signficant restoration and reopened as Anchorage 1770 last summer.

"We put a lot of hard work into this," he said. "I think it's finally paying off."
