Trauma killed 6-year-old St. Helena child, county coroner says
Six-year-old D'Naja Fields of St. Helena died as the result of trauma, the Beaufort County Coroner's Office said Wednesday.
Fields died July 10. Her parents -- Antonio Coaxum, 24, and Dajaa Devon Fields, 25, of Storyteller Road in St. Helena -- have been charged with homicide by child abuse by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Both Coaxum and Fields remain in the Beaufort County Detention Center. Coaxum has not been assigned bond. Fields' bond is set at $100,000.
D'Naja Fields died two days after family members brought her to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Capt. Bob Bromage said at the time.
She was a student at Riverview Charter School in Beaufort and was pronounced dead at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen declined to release more information related to Fields' death Wednesday.
