Update: Lady's Island teacher resigns after charged with sexual assault of minor
A Beaufort man charged with third-degree criminal sexual assault with a minor resigned from his teaching position at Lady's Island Middle School on Thursday, a Beaufort County School District spokesman confirmed.
Christopher Guy worked as a math teacher at Lady's Island Middle School before his resignation Thursday, spokesman Jim Foster said. Guy, 31, was charged Wednesday after the incident that occurred at his home on Lafayette Street, according to a report from the Beaufort Police Department.
Guy had worked in the school district for three years, starting as a special-education teacher at Robert Smalls Middle School. He had worked at Lady's Island Middle for the past two years, Foster said.
Police spokeswoman Cpl. Hope Able said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. Wednesday. The victim's mother reported the incident to police, she said.
Able said the victim was a 13-year-old and declined to disclose the victim's relation to Guy on Friday. Able declined to release further information about the incident, citing the ongoing investigation.
