A group of volunteers recently gave Beaufort street a new look.

Keep Beaufort County Beautiful received a grant through Palmetto Pride to clear 20 trees the county says were overgrown and unhealthy and plant 26 new Sioux crape myrtle trees. The trees line Depot Road near Bay Street.

The previous trees had grown up into power lines and created a safety hazard, a county news release said. The crape myrtles will stay under the lines, the release said.
