Bluffton cat survives shooting
When a Bluffton woman heard gunshots Monday morning near her home off May River Road, she didn’t think much of it.
“It is common for her to hear gunshots in the area of house,” she told police, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report released Thursday.
What isn’t very common: One of those shots hit her cat.
Several hours after hearing the shots, the Bluffton woman saw that her “one of her cats had been shot in the left of its body,” the report said.
She called the police, and the deputies who responded confirmed that the cat had been shot but “did not appear to be in any pain or suffering.”
It is unclear whether the shooting was intentional.
As of Tuesday, when the Sheriff’s Office report was filed, the owner had “not taken the cat to the vet ... but might do so in the future to possibly have the bullet removed,” the report said.
There were no suspects identified, arrests made or updates to the case as of Thursday afternoon, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Bob Bromage said.
