New details emerge in Simmons Fish Camp shooting on Hilton Head
One man was injured during a shooting incident early Saturday morning at Simmons Fish Camp, a private club on Hilton Head Island.
Kevin Darel Ramsey, 27, was taken to Hilton Head hospital after realizing he'd been shot in the leg during a 3 a.m. fight that began, witnesses said, inside the bar and later spilled out into the parking lot.
Several shots were heard, though no one could confirm having seen a shooter. Deputies saw several cars and bar patrons fleeing the area when they arrived. Shell casings were scattered throughout the parking lot, and two cars had been damaged by gunfire, a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office release said.
Ramsey told police he was at the club when the fight broke out but was not involved.
Investigators who reviewed the security video later said Ramsey could be seen discharging a gun outside the club and, according to the release, may have shot himself in the leg. No other shooters have been identified at this time.
Ramsey, who was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries, was arrested on one count of Discharging a Firearm within Town Limits. Ramsey was also charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana after he was found to be in possession of a small quantity of pot at the hospital.
