PetSmart, Another Broken Egg heading to new Hilton Head marketplace
Hilton Head Islanders will no longer have to trek over the bridges to shop at a major pet supplies warehouse.
A PetSmart will take up residence next to Kitchen & Company in an 18,000-square-foot building of Sea Turtle Marketplace, where Pineland Station once stood, according to Virginia Beach, Va.-based developer Wheeler Real Estate Company. The pet warehouse, which offers food, supplies, grooming, training and small pets, is slated to open at the Mathews Drive center in early 2017, according to spokeswoman Melissa Wenzel.
The national retail chain has another location on the mainland, located off Malphrus Road in Bluffton, and one next to the Beaufort Walmart. Bluffton is also home to rival pet store Petco, located in the Best Buy shopping center on U.S. 278.
Another chain has signed on to Sea Turtle Marketplace. Another Broken Egg Cafe, which first opened in Louisiana and has several other locations in South Carolina, will occupy one of the 3,000-square-foot storefronts that will line William Hilton Parkway, where Pineland Station once had only parking spots.
Its egg-centered menu is heavy on breakfast items, but also includes afternoon-friendly options like shrimp and grits, crab cakes, burgers and salads.
The cafe is also particularly Hilton Head-friendly, with a long list of drinks for a “spirited morning.” There are two bloody Marys, because one is never enough, and a few drinks that offer a jolt, like a Nutella Iced Latte and RumChata & Java, garnished with a bite of waffle and maple syrup.
The locations in Mount Pleasant, Charleston and Greenville are open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Another restaurant is heading to Columbia, according to its website.
Stein Mart and Starbucks remain in the marketplace from Pineland Station, and Kitchen & Company announced in January it would open in early 2017 as one of a few junior anchors in the center.
In January, the developers said Sea Turtle Marketplace was 90 percent committed and stores would start opening in the fall.
Attempts to reach a Wheeler representative for additional information were unsuccessful Thursday, but according to its website, a 36,000-square-foot anchor is under contract, another junior anchor and two storefronts are being leased and one other junior anchor is under a “letter of intent,” meaning both parties are still negotiating their contract.
Six smaller storefronts are still available, according to Wheeler’s website.
