The Filling Station Art Gallery relocates in Old Town Bluffton
The metal garage at 69 Calhoun St. in Old Town Bluffton may look a little lonely these days: Its eight-year tenant has a new home.
The Filling Station Art Gallery, which features the work of 60 artists, is now at 3-C Lawton St., a couple of blocks over from its former address, according to owner Bernie Haag.
One of the main reasons for the move had to do with the building's lack of heating, air conditioning and ... bathroom?
"The landlord raised the rent and the building was untenable," Haag said.
Despite obviously enjoying air conditioning and indoor plumbing, which his new location has, Haag said the move was the right decision.
"It's like 'The Jeffersons' song -- I'm movin' on up," he laughed. "I'm just happy to be here."
Eggs 'n' Tricities, also a former Calhoun Street tenant, moved to 5 Lawton St. on Feb. 7. Could Lawton be the next happening avenue in Old Town Bluffton?
"I'm not the first nor the last to move to Lawton Street," Haag said.
