How to get low fares

Seats are limited for the $78 one-way fares on certain flights to and from Cincinnati and Savannah.

These tickets must be purchased by March 13 for travel by Oct. 11. The price includes taxes and fees, but credit card purchases are subject to additional surcharge.

Go to allegiant.com for details.Allegiant Air flights between Cincinnati and Savannah are so popular that the company announced Friday it is extending the service by two months.

The new seasonal service will include twice-weekly flights beginning May 8 through Oct. 11 between the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky and Savannah-Hilton Head Island international airports, according to a company news release.

Flight days, times and fares can be found only at Allegiant Air's website, allegiant.com. To roll out the new service, Allegiant is offering some promotional one-way fares as low as $78, according to the release.

"Allegiant has been very pleased with the Cincinnati area's enthusiastic response to our new Hilton Head flights," said Jude Bricker, Allegiant Travel Co. senior vice president of planning. "We're certain local travelers will appreciate the extension of this already-popular service into the fall."

The announcement expands upon Allegiant Air's new twice-weekly, direct flights between Savannah and Akron, Cincinnati and Columbus. The company announced the new service last week as part of 22 new direct seasonal routes for the carrier across the country, including five new flights to Myrtle Beach.

By the end of the week, more than half of Allegiant's flights between Savannah and Ohio had fewer than 10 seats available and they have continued to fill up since then.

Leaders at the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce -- which helped the airport land the deal with Allegiant -- say they're excited the flights better connect Hilton Head to its largest market for incoming visitors, more than three quarters of whom typically drive to the island.

Last year the chamber and Savannah leaders crafted a similar deal to land JetBlue, which now offers discount flights directly to New York City and Boston. Leaders have said they hope the new carriers will help them bring even more flights to the airport and drive down ticket prices across the board.

Demand for the flights to Savannah from Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport exceeded airport and Allegiant expectations, airport CEO Candace McGraw said in the news release.

Cincinnati is now one of Allegiant's fastest growing markets, with service growing exponentially over the past year to now include 38 weekly flights to 10 destinations, according to the release.

"We are confident the success of the (Cincinnati)-Savannah/Hilton Head route will further lead to Allegiant and other carriers adding more destinations in the future," McGraw said.
