St. Helena Island native and "American Idol" season 12 winner Candice Glover will appear in a Hallmark movie airing Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.

If you're flipping through TV shows on Saturday night, you'll likely see a familiar face on the Hallmark Channel.

St. Helena Island native and"American Idol" season 12 winner Candice Glover will make her movie debut in Hallmark's Christmas movie "Northpole" airing at 8 p.m.

Starring Tiffani Amber Thiessen, Bailee Madison and Max Charles,"Northpole" is a made-for-TV film about recapturing the joy of the holiday season.

That joy powers Northpole, but when people are too busy to enjoy holiday togetherness, Santa's town is threatened. Resourceful elf Clementine (Madison) enlists the help of Kevin (Charles), one of Christmas' biggest supporters, to restore his community's zest for the season. When he starts talking about elves, however, his mother Chelsea (Thiessen) worries her son's imagination has gone too far, but she is busy tracking down a story for the newspaper she works for.

Glover plays Josephine, a gospel singer and one of Chelsea's sources. Her appearance, while brief in dialogue, showcases her vocals during performances of "Silent Night" and "O Christmas Tree."

"The filming experience was very fun,"; Glover said in an email. "Filming a movie was so different from performing on 'Idol' because if you mess up your words on 'Idol,' that's it, because it's a live show and everyone sees you mess up. The film crew at 'Northpole' was so accommodating and understanding that it was my first movie."

The most difficult thing was dealing with a set that was much frostier than a typical day on St. Helena, Glover said. The film was shot on location in Montreal, where outside scenes were filmed in temperatures as low as negative 25 degrees, Thiessen told Canadian news outlet Global News

"We were out there from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.," Glover said. "You'll see in the outside scenes how cold it was."

"Northpole" is part of Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas, with 12 new movies airing on the channel between Nov. 1 and Dec. 12. Other titles include "A Cookie Cutter Christmas," "Angels and Ornaments" and "Best Christmas Party Ever."

It's incentive enough for those who enjoy listening to Christmas music around Thanksgiving, but even more so to see a local songstress breaking into a new platform.
