Old Town Bluffton is a now a state-recognized arts and cultural district.
The S.C. Arts Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to grant the designation, which serves as a seal of approval from the state and informs visitors that the districts are worthy places to browse an art gallery, take in a show, or grab a bite to eat.
The new cultural district stretches roughly from Bluffton Village south to the May River, and from Cahill's Market east to Burnt Church Road.
That area includes more than 100 art galleries, theaters and other cultural attractions, according to town documents.
Bluffton is the sixth municipality in the state with recognized cultural district and the second in Beaufort County.
The arts commission granted the same such designation to the city of Beaufort late last month.
