Van Der Meer students claim 3 titles at USTA Southern Championships
Hilton Head Island’s Beau Pelletier and J.J. Tracy brought home titles from last weekend’s USTA Southern Championships, along with fellow Van Der Meer Academy student Kylie Collins of Savannah.
Pelletier didn’t drop a set during his run through the Boys 18s competition in Mobile, Ala., capped by a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Matthew Terry of Alpharetta, Ga. The opening set of the final marked the only time he was pushed to win a set 7-5.
Tracy was victorious in the Boys 14s, knocking off top-seeded Benjamin Koch (Abbeville, La.) in the final with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at Macon, Ga. Like Pelletier, Tracy didn’t lose a set during his march as the No. 2 seed in the draw.
Collins, the top seed in the Girls 14s, lived up to her billing with a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the final against Simpsonville’s Samantha Johns.
Meanwhile, the Smith Stearns duo of Jack Kelly and Brant Fenno captured the doubles crown of the Boys 16s competition in Little Rock, Ark.
