Hilton Head’s Hayley Carter tops college women’s tennis rankings
Hilton Head Island’s Hayley Carter now stands as the No. 1 player in college women’s tennis, holding the top spot of the ITA/Collegiate Tennis rankings in both singles and doubles this week.
The North Carolina junior has won 18 of her past 19 singles matches, taking over the No. 1 spot when Ohio State’s Francesca DiLorenzo lost over the weekend. Carter is 30-3 this season, with one of her losses coming to DiLorenzo back in November.
The Smith Stearns product also holds down the No. 1 doubles ranking with teammate Whitney Kay, compiling a 21-3 record this season. They have been atop the doubles chart since mid-February.
Carter becomes the first women’s collegian to top both the singles and doubles rankings since Stanford’s Nicole Gibbs in 2012.
