The USTA Southern Section presented Professional Tennis Registry $18,000 Wheelchair Championships with its Wheelchair Tennis Excellence Award on Saturday in Atlanta, Ga.

The Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) is based on Hilton Head Island, where the PTR $18,000 Wheelchair Championships, an ITF Series II Event and a USTA Fall Southern Championship, are held each fall.

The Wheelchair Tennis Excellence Award is given to a player, program volunteer, or tournament that demonstrates outstanding community service, on-court ability, event organization and overall promotion of wheelchair tennis.

For the 2015 event, tournament director Julie Jilly welcomed 94 players from nine countries competing in Men’s, Women’s, Quad, and Junior Divisions. Due to its large Junior draw, the tournament is also designated as an ITF Grade A Junior event (only two tournaments are designated this level in all of North America.)

Accepting on behalf of Jilly was PTR’s CEO, Dan Santorum.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 15,000 members in 126 countries. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
